Your data is not the product
This policy explains what data ZeeMSG collects, why, and how it is handled. ZeeMSG is built around end-to-end encryption, local-first storage, and no phone-number identity requirement.
Message content
ZeeMSG uses end-to-end encryption so only you and the intended recipient can read message content. We do not have the ability to read or monitor plaintext messages, voice notes, photos, videos, or files you send.
What we do not collect
We do not require phone numbers, contact-list uploads, public profiles, or ad-tracking identities to use ZeeMSG. We do not use any advertising SDKs, analytics frameworks, or third-party tracking.
No ads or tracking
ZeeMSG contains no advertisements, no tracking pixels, and no behavioral analytics. The app does not monetize user data or behavior in any way.
Data we collect and why
The following data is collected to operate the messaging service. We collect only what is necessary for ZeeMSG to function.
User ID and public keys
When you create an account, ZeeMSG generates a cryptographic key pair on your device. Your User ID is derived from your public keys and is sent to our server so other users can message you. Your private keys never leave your device.
Encrypted message envelopes
When a message is sent, an encrypted envelope containing the ciphertext, sender ID, recipient ID, timestamp, and message ID is temporarily stored on our server until delivered. Envelopes are deleted from the server once acknowledged by the recipient.
Push notification tokens
If you enable push notifications, your device's push token is sent to our server so we can deliver notifications via Apple Push Notification service (APNs) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). You can disable notifications at any time.
IP addresses
Your IP address is visible to our server when your device connects, as with any internet service. We do not log or store IP addresses beyond what is needed for active connections and rate limiting.
Message metadata
Our server processes routing metadata (sender ID, recipient ID, timestamps) to deliver encrypted messages. This metadata is not used for profiling, advertising, or any purpose beyond message delivery.
Device permissions
ZeeMSG may request access to your camera (video calls, QR scanning), microphone (voice calls, voice notes), photo library (sending media), and notifications. Each permission is optional and used only for the stated feature.
Local storage and retention
Messages and conversation history are stored locally on your device. You can delete local history from the app at any time. Encrypted backups, if enabled, are under your control and protected by a passphrase you choose. Server-side envelopes are deleted upon delivery acknowledgment.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or disclose user data to advertisers, data brokers, or unrelated third parties. Push notification tokens are shared with Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM) solely to deliver notifications. No other data is shared with third parties.
Security controls
ZeeMSG uses modern cryptographic primitives including X25519 key exchange, XChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption, and Ed25519 signatures. User-facing protections include contact verification, PIN lock, and in-app privacy controls.
Your rights and controls
Data deletion
You can delete your local message history and media at any time from within the app. To request deletion of your User ID and associated data from our server, contact [email protected]. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Children's privacy
ZeeMSG is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided information, we will take steps to remove it.
Legal compliance
ZeeMSG complies with applicable privacy and data-protection laws, including GDPR where relevant. Users in the EU have the right to access, correct, or delete their personal data by contacting us.
Policy updates
We may update this policy over time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or website. Continued use of ZeeMSG after an update means you accept the revised policy.
